Happy Mondays legend Bez shows the Mirror the workout he hopes will keep his clobber a Loose Fit – and his missus happy in bed.
The maracas-shaking star, 56, was famed for his drug-fuelled antics with the Madchester band. But now he gets a “high” boosting his biceps and buns for partner Firouzeh Razavi – a personal trainer 22 years his junior.
And he is spreading the love by posting his own Joe Wicks-style fitness classes on YouTube.
Taking the Mirror through his Get Buzzin’ With Bez routine in a cold Salford park, he admitted he loves cake, adding: “I haven’t exercised for two-and-a-half years. I hope after this my missus fancies me again! She’s super-fit so I’ve got to keep up in the bedroom.”
And he added of his YouTube videos: “Lockdown has been tough… so hopefully this’ll cheer everyone up.”
Bez, real name Mark Berry, will be hosting the classes with personal trainer Andrew Naylor every week for the next three months.
For the main circuit, Andrew, 37, has put together seven lots of exercises to be completed three times for 30 seconds, with a 30-second rest in between.
“We wanted it to be simple enough for people to be able to join in at home,” Andrew, who owns Fit Forward UK in Preston, said.
We joined Bez for some ‘Happy Monday Mountain Climbers’, ‘Kinky Afro Kickbacks’ and ‘Step On Lunges’.
And a bit of snow certainly didn’t put off the former raver, who was wearing a flimsy pair of blue shorts soaked in rain and mud.
“Northerners don’t wear f*g lycra!” he said.
He is only a week in, but he’s already seeing the benefits: “I used to get high on drugs, but doing all this exercise with all the endorphins running through my body, it’s like a real natural high, you feel so good.
“Since I’ve started, I have also been sleeping so much better. But people don’t even have to join in if they don’t want to. They can just sit on the sofa and laugh at me if they want.”
*Get Buzzin’ With Bez, produced by Manchester-based Spoke TV, will be on every Sunday at 11am
